Band Camp '07 - Day 2July 30, 2007 |
Pictures follow the text! |
Day two started a little muggy, but nice and cool. Stretching began
promptly at 7:30, with everyone looking surprisingly chipper (even those
students who have been waking up at the crack of noon!). After crunches,
pushups, calf stretches, and other stretches (the percussion and guard
sections substituted a run), it was off to breakfast.
In the morning we worked on more drill on a cool morning. Then to lunch,
followed by Dr. Azevedo's famous speech. The afternoon sectionals convened
with a nice breeze -- though the gray clouds in the distance told us that
outdoor sectionals weren't going to last much longer. The rain finally came,
forcing everyone into the air conditioning.
After dinner was another productive rehearsal in the cool, overcast
evening until dark, when the winds went into the SAC to play. The last hour
of activities had the students playing more get-to-know you games. One
particular group played a game of "slap," which involves slapping the floor,
was so into their game, they continued playing through the many calls for
ice cream bars!
Monday is always the longest day of camp, as it has the usual morning and
afternoon rehearsal blocks, followed by a longer evening rehearsal block.

Out on the field. Pushups are a form of self discipline. Don't let the standing ones fool you -- they got up before I snapped this picture!
